We placed this sheet on the floor and we were asked to do these movements in the space e.g. a direct, sudden, strong, punch. Using this information we would use our bodies in many different ways to get around the room. This was a good exercise to do because it helps you to use your body in different ways. We furthered this practical exercise by pairing up with a partner and looking at two of these actions, we then thought about the type of actions and how these can relate to real people. My partner and I used wring and glide ad we likened these actions to a mother and a child. We used these because Mothers are always cleaning and bending down and children like to glide and run around like aeroplanes. I can use the lessons learnt in this activity in characters that I play soon because, it makes you think what sort of person are they.
Do they glide, press, dab these efforts could define how you want to portray a character in a scene. For example Lopakhin I would say has a punch so I'm going to play him as a proud man that stands strong.
We were then casted the character we were to play in our scene of The Cherry Orchard and put into our groups and we began to talk about what happens in our scene. When discussing this its important to understand your characters objective in the scene, what do they want? For example my character wants Ranyevskya to understand that the Orchard needs to be leased out in to summer properties so that the family can get some money, this is his super objective in the scene and he tries to achieve his object in many ways. The main way he tries to achieve his objective is by being loud so they will listen to him, when this doesn't work he gives up on the conversation and he's next objective is to walk away from the conversation. Whilst he has his objective all the others have there own motives, it's important to work out what everyone's characters objectives are because this helps you to rehearse the scene as you already know most of it.
After this we went into character groups and tried to work out little habits that our characters would do to make the performance more naturalistic. To explore this we did the I don't believe you exercise, we did this because the activity helps to boost natrualism and not over act a scene which is key in the cherry orchard as it is natrualism
