9/9/14

In today's lesson we our overall heading was the Stanislavsky system. We began the lesson in semi-supine and just relaxed worked on breathing in and out in and out. Working on breathing is a key part of Stanislavsky's system because this helps you to get into your inner thoughts consequently you can come up with creative ideas and this will help you with your acting.

The next exercise we did was thinking about people we had seen on the way to school, we had to think about the way they stood, spoke walked etc and this in itself is a good exercise because, as an actor you should be intuitive when looking at people and be able to come up with a story for them as it broadens your ideas. We then moved around the space with slight interaction with those around us. This helped us get in to the characters mind set a little more, then we used Stans magic ‘’if’. In this exercise we were given different situations as our characters such as “if they found £20 on the floor” and reacted as we thought they would. This exercise was very useful because it meant that we really had to think about the characters mind set and react in a way this person would. This task develops your ability to find truth in acting as these simple day to day occurrences increase naturalistic acting ability.

We then went on to talk about ‘Actioning’ which is a technique where you break down every line that your character says and place a verb in front of the line e.g to provoke .I felt like the was a good activity because it meant you had to really analyse the text to understand what was happening in the scene, doing this helps you get a greater awareness  of what is going on in the scene. It also helps you develop a greater understanding of a character in terms of the way he says thinks. We then applied this activity to random piece of dialogue that we hadn’t seen before, the outcomes were interesting because actioning  showed a variety of people different interpretations to the same text.
